Finally, My son bought his first motorcycle, a 2016 BMW Xs1000R. Even though, this bike is listed as a Sports Touring bike, but for sure, it will not have the comfort as my 2010 HD Ultra Limited.
Anyway, the young man wants to follow me crossing the country this year.  Normally, Late July, early August was the time for my trip, but I've decided to ride this June, as it will be cooler.  I hope that my baby can do it, as endurance is the key of this kind of ride.
For now, the initial plan will be the Southern route, S. FL, LA, AL, MS, AR, OK, TX, NM, AZ, turn North to UT, then across I-50 (NV) to N. CA (San Jose). The return route will be determined later, It will depend how my young son can handle the ride.
Yosemite, Yellowstone, and Grand Teton would be nice for the way home, but that is still in the air.
A combination of hotelling and camping is in the plan, so I may have to pull my little trailer for more luggage, not decided yet! :)
Wish me luck!

Nick

After buying and pulling many different kinds of camping trailers, I have learned that they are all built "too heavy" for motorcycle.  I have meant that's not all cruiser can pull a camping trailer, except some big bikes, like Goldwing, Venture, Electra Glide.  Even so, pulling a heavy trailer will cost more (much lower gas mileage) and take the fun out of the trip (slower speed), in most case. It is impossible to pull a pop-up camper trailer with a Honda Shadow, or a HD Sporter.
With that in mind, I am in the process to build the lightest teardrop trailer that I hope its weight will be less than 200 lbs, and I've named it, Tu Compact Teardrop Trailer.

Here is the first step that I did yesterday.

Prepare an old trailer

o-:-h...... I am a lifelong rider. Have been retired for four years and planning a coast to coast trip. As far as long distance goes, so far I have done two 2000-mile trips. One was Georgia/Michigan, the other Georgia/New York. I joined this site to get all sorts of valuable information and possibly meet other riders, from my side of the country, that are looking to do a coast-to-coast as I do not want to do it alone.
I am in Atlanta and my ride is a 2008 Kawasaki Nomad 1600

I am a retired, mature and safe rider based in Atlanta, GA. I am looking for another rider to do some long-distance touring. There is a definite possibility for a West Coast in May 2018
I guess for convenience sake you should be based no further than 200 miles from me. Anyone interested can respond to this thread or email me.(my email address is in my profile).

Again...I know...it's still way early for some, but to me, I was running out of time in every single year. :)
This year (2017) I may change my trip a little bit, put the bike on the truck or trailer it, if my son wants to go with me. :)
I know it is not "Riding Across USA", but I have been crossing the country for almost 18 years. My mind is still riding, but the body is not. ;D
Who knows? I keep saying this every year, and I end up riding the bike the whole way. :ls:

Sturgis everyone!  08/04 - 08/13/2017
Let's roll! :)
