touring usa and bike hire from uk

hi im from cheshire england and i am touring america at the end of july with my wife ,i have road a bike for 34 years ranging from motorcross, supermoto,hardtail chop,sports bike, streetfighter,i have a 1995 blade that is now a  streetfighter i have had it 15 years,also got a kwak z1000 h1 fuel injection 1981 had it for 27 years ,i am on a budjet and  want to hire a harley when i get to the usa with no set plans stopping when we want in motels ,riding through carolina, georgia , alabama, louisiana,then heading north west for sturgis, any advise is welcome, is this poss and how long without rushing would this take riding 4 to 6 hours a day, cheers paul.

First, welcome!
You have plenty of motorcycle experience to know that 5 -6 hours a day is way too relax; i've meant easy cruising.
With that pace, I think it may get to the ballpark of 2 weeks,  but then from the end of July until Sturgis which is around 7 days (2012).
I think mapping out the trip in advance will be a lot of help.
